Daventry Patios

Patio installation across Daventry and the surrounding area

Pulled up a client’s old concrete slabs last spring. Underneath, pure clay. Sitting water everywhere.

That is the kind of job that goes wrong fast if you do not know what you are doing. We have been laying patios across Daventry and into Warwickshire long enough to spot trouble before it starts.

Right, here is what we actually do:

  • Porcelain tiled patio installations
  • Indian sandstone and limestone slabbing
  • Concrete flagstone laying
  • Garden paths and paved areas
  • New walling, kerb edging and borders
  • Timber fencing installations
  • Artificial grass and turfed lawn fitting

Every patio we lay goes down on a proper 4:1 sharp sand cement bedding mortar mix. No shortcuts. That is what holds the job together five winters from now.

Why DIY on clay or sloping ground is a bad idea

Clay ground moves. It shrinks in dry summers and swells when the rain hits. Sloping gardens drain badly if the falls are even slightly wrong. If you bed slabs straight onto compacted clay without the right sub-base and adequate drainage channels, the whole thing lifts, cracks or floods, and sorting it out costs more than getting it right the first time would have. We have fixed more than a few of those jobs around Daventry. It is gas altogether the number of DIY patios we have had to pull up and start again.

However, with the correct preparation, even a difficult sloped or clay-bound garden can hold a clean, level finish for years.

We cover Daventry and the wider NN11 area, and we have worked on gardens near Ryton Pools Country Park, so we know exactly the kind of ground conditions this part of Warwickshire throws at you.
