Nuneaton Patios
A decent summer’s day changes everything
When the sun finally shows up, you want somewhere worth sitting. A well-laid patio makes that happen. We’ve been doing this work across Nuneaton and the surrounding area long enough to know what the ground, the weather, and the housing stock here actually demands.
A lot of the gardens we work in sit behind Warwickshire red brick terraces or those 1990s Barratt-style estate houses where the original garden is just compacted topsoil and a bit of tired turf. The ground moves. Drainage is usually an afterthought. Getting the sub-base right matters more than the top surface, honestly.
What we work with
- Porcelain tiles, 20mm and 30mm
- Indian sandstone and kandla grey sandstone calibrated 22mm
- Concrete flagstones
- Walling and new fencing
- Artificial grass and turfed lawns
We use calibrated stone because it beds consistently. Uncalibrated can look great on a sample board and then give you grief on site. We’ve seen it.
How a typical installation week goes
- Excavation, stripping out the existing surface and topsoil
- Sub-base, compacted MOT Type 1 to the right depth
- Bedding, sharp sand or mortar depending on the material
- Laying, keeping levels and falls correct for drainage
- Jointing, with a flexible or rigid compound suited to the stone
- Cleaning down, so you see the finished result properly
That’s the honest shape of it. Some jobs take four days. Some take two weeks. It depends on size and what we find when we dig.
