Great Notley Patios

Great Notley Patios

Laying it properly, from the ground up

For the better part of my working life, I have been cutting and bedding stone across Essex, and the work we do at Great Notley Patios still starts the same way every time: with the ground itself.

What we do

Before a single slab goes down, we assess falls, drainage, and the substrate beneath. A mortar mix ratio and the depth of a compacted sub-base matter more than most customers realise, that is where a patio either lasts twenty years or starts rocking inside two.

  • Porcelain tiled patios
  • Indian sandstone and natural stone paving
  • Concrete flagstone installations
  • Garden paths and patio areas
  • Timber fencing and garden walling
  • Roll-on turf and artificial grass lawns

Materials I know well

Customers often come to us unsure about Indian sandstone versus Yorkstone, and I spend time walking them through the difference. Yorkstone is harder, costs more, weathers beautifully. Indian sandstone gives you warmer tones and suits a lot of Essex gardens well, however the quality varies considerably between suppliers, so I source carefully.

We also work with Liscannor flagstone where clients want something with real character and a natural riven finish that holds its own outdoors.

The broader garden picture

Patios rarely sit in isolation. Most of our installs in and around Great Notley also take in boundary fencing, a walled edge, or a new lawn alongside the stonework. We handle all of that ourselves rather than leaving customers to coordinate separate trades.
