Porcelain in particular needs a proper sub-base and exact levelling. Cut corners on the prep and you’ll be lifting slabs inside two winters. We’ve seen it.

And honestly, half the work is in what you don’t see once it’s laid, the drainage, the compaction, the bedding depth. That stuff matters more than most people realise until something goes wrong. Having laid surfaces from areas similar in clay-heavy ground conditions to what you’d find around D6 in Dublin, we know how much groundwork the finished surface actually depends on.

But a well-built patio can last decades with very little upkeep. That’s the whole point.
